Second Grade

Curriculum at a Glance

Students in second grade receive instruction in religion, language arts, health, mathematics, reading and/or literature, science, and social studies. In addition, instruction in art, music, and physical education are given weekly.  Preparing and receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist are a truly special part of second grade. Creating/coloring a design for the First Communion Altar Cloth based on the Corporal Works of Mercy is a treasured activity. Classes are both self-contained by homerooms and departmental.

  • Service Projects – Canned goods for the Dorothy Day House, Hands Across America, Christmas Dinner for a needy family, Sponsor a child at St. Jude Hospital and Mathathon
  • The Primary Spelling Bee
  • Field Trips, including White House Fruit Farm, Butler Art Museum/Clarence Smith Mineral Exhibit at Y.S.U. and Easy Street Production
  • The Primary Christmas Program
  • Christmas Mexican Fiesta in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe
  • Extra Curricular – Flag Football, Soccer and Cross Country
  • Blessing of Pets - In remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi
