First Grade

Curriculum at a Glance

Students in first grade receive instruction in religion, language arts, health, mathematics, reading and/or literature, science, and social studies. In addition, instruction in art, music, and physical education are given weekly. In first grade, there is a focus on building math skills including addition and subtraction through 12, becoming engaged readers and writers and putting their faith into action through daily prayer and their personal religion journals. Classes are both self-contained by homeroom groups and departmental.

  • 8th Grade Buddies – sit with during Mass and do activities together throughout the year
  • 3rd grade Reading Partners – students are paired and read together on Friday afternoons
  • The Primary Spelling Bee
  • The Annual Christmas Program
  • Collection of food items and money for the poor
  • Field Trip to Easy Street Production
  • Extra Curricular – Flag Football, Soccer and Cross Country
